Earth Day - Show Some Respect

If we could show the earth a little respect, we would be all better for it !

ORWELL – The times, they are a changin,' says the manager of the Macphail woods ecological forestry project.

While Bob Dylan first sang the words to that iconic song in 1963, Gary Schneider has been sounding a similar anthem since he started the ecoproject about 20 years ago.

At that time, protecting and preserving ecosystems were not at the top of people’s minds.

The Environmental Coalition of Prince Edward Island invites tender submissions for Standing Purchase Offers for Balsam Fir Tips in 2010 on the above property. The Tender submissions for Standing Purchase Offer for Balsam Fir Tips 2010 will be accepted based on a total price for the 4.45 hectares.

No Fall Flavours event at Macphail Homestead

Just in case you were planning to attend the Fall Flavours event at the Macphail Homestead this week, it has been cancelled. The Homestead is not serving food this summer while they reorganize, so they could not be part of this year's event.

Riparian Zone workshop cancelled

Unfortunately, we will be cancelling the Improving Riparian Zones workshop scheduled for August 21. Rob Sharkie, who has led this workshop for several years now, is working out of province and it looks like he may not be around for it. We will try to reschedule one for later in the fall. Gary

Looking for Volunteers

We're looking for volunteers to help with our work at Macphail Woods. It is a great place to spend some time and your help will ensure our continued success. Here are some of the things that volunteers could help out with:

* Nursery work - transplanting, weeding, seed collecting
* Photography - taking digital photos, organizing our collection
* Fundraising

Wind Expert to Speak at ECO-PEI AGM, Feb. 18th

Dr. Yves Gagnon, a pioneer in modelling community wind development throughout the region, will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the Environmental Coalition of PEI. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 18 at the Colonel Gray High School lecture theatre in Charlottetown from 7-9 pm.

The business meeting begins at 7 pm and will outline the year’s activities, including updates on the Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project and the renewable energy project. Elections will also be held for the 2009 board.
