Wind Expert to Speak at ECO-PEI AGM, Feb. 18th

Dr. Yves Gagnon, a pioneer in modelling community wind development throughout the region, will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the Environmental Coalition of PEI. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 18 at the Colonel Gray High School lecture theatre in Charlottetown from 7-9 pm.

The business meeting begins at 7 pm and will outline the year’s activities, including updates on the Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project and the renewable energy project. Elections will also be held for the 2009 board.

Dr. Gagnon’s presentation will start at 7:45 pm. He is the K.C. Irving Chair in Sustainable Development at the University of Moncton and Vice Chair and Governance Officer of the Wind Energy Institute of Canada Board of Directors. Dr. Gagnon recently developed a community wind report in New Brunswick that offers a possible new approach to help maximize local economic benefits from wind development. He has also contributed extensively to the understanding of wind resources in Prince Edward Island. Dr. Gagnon will discuss opportunities for community wind models in Prince Edward Island. There will be time for discussion after the presentation.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the potential for community wind development and to find out how you can get involved in the work of the Environmental Coalition of PEI. There is no charge for admission and everyone is welcome.
