Shutdown period indefinite until violations addressed, minister says
CBC News
The P.E.I. government has shut down a controversial construction waste disposal site in Hazelbrook, north of Charlottetown, until it complies with environmental orders.
An order came from the office of Environment Minister George Webster Friday afternoon.
"There were one or two violations," said Webster.
"In order to protect the environment we decided it was appropriate for us to issue a ministerial order and we did that. They have to cease operations until further discussion happens and further investigation and further compliance."
Webster wouldn't go into detail about how the site is in violation of P.E.I.'s environmental code. He said the shutdown is indefinite, but will last at least a couple weeks.
