Residents want smell gone from Hazelbrook dump site
The Guardian

A ghastly, nauseating smell has returned to the community of Hazelbrook and residents want a local dump owner to immediately stop the odour.

A meeting between the two groups was held Tuesday in Charlottetown.
“It's unbearable,’’ said resident Gordon Gallant of the smell somewhat like rotten eggs with overtones of something even more sickening that occasionally drifts over his house on the Gay Road.

Richard McGuigan readily admits that smell is from his Hazelbrook construction and demolition materials dump site. He took over the site in 2002 and turmoil has followed, going as far as the Supreme Court.

One outcome of that turmoil was a committee composed of members of the community, government and McGuigan’s company.

It recommended the site start closing down. The meeting Tuesday was to present a shut-down process that would see partial closure starting this winter.
