Prince Edward Island's new Liberal government says it needs time to study the pros and cons of giving municipalities the power to ban cosmetic pesticides.

Charlottetown city council voted earlier this week to ask the province to hand over control of the issue to the Island's cities and towns.
"The City of Charlottetown had time to do their collection of data and research and consultation and we would have to do the same," Community Affairs Minister Carolyn Bertram told CBC News Tuesday.
The debate over lawn pesticides has gone back and forth between the city and province for years.
