First reported PEI fishkill for 2010
The first reported fish kill of 2010 has been reported in the north western section of the island, in the headwaters in Saint Louis area before Marchbank pond, which leads to the Montrose river.
Watershed workers discovered a number of dead fish on July 13th. About 70 badly decomposed trout were collected, including a 4 lb trout. It is feared many more fish, possibly thousands of smaller sized fish have died.
The PEI Environment Dept is investigating and have taken samples of fish, soil, and water for testing. No cause has been determined and the investigation continues.
